On the slopes of Mahadeva mountain in Kashmir, the tradition tells, Shiv came to the sage Vasugupta in a dream: under the great rock, the teaching lies waiting. Seventy-seven aphorisms were found — not a story, not a ritual, but a terse map of consciousness itself: how the boundless awareness that you are contracts into a person, and by what three means it recognizes itself again.
