Every contemplative road has its ditches, and the second unmesha maps them without flinching. First ditch: settling for powers — the mind blossoming in limited attainments is not awakening but 'the dream of common knowledge' in the womb of the great illusion (II.4); the sutra agrees, across traditions, with Patanjali's blunt line that siddhis are obstacles to samadhi. Second ditch: mistaking a physical trick for flight — real khechari, Kshemaraja insists against the posture-and-force schools, is not a locked body but Shiv's own state, 'moving in the sky of awareness' (II.5). Between the two ditches walks no method at all, but a person: the guru is the upaya (II.6) — the voice that shows the pervasion, or, deeper, the Lord's own grace-power wearing a human face. And what does that grace actually do? It awakens the wheel of Matrika (II.7) — the alphabet-goddess whose unrecognized hum built your bondage in I.4, now recognized, letter by letter, as the unfolding of the one 'I'.
garbhe cittavikāso 'viśiṣṭavidyāsvapnaḥ ॥
The mind's blossoming inside the womb — the non-seeing of the great illusion — content with limited attainments, is only the dream of common knowledge.
In simple words: The sweetest slip on the mantra path: a little attainment arrives and the mind 'blossoms' — and stops right there. Kshemaraja names it impure knowledge, a vivid dream of division — and cites the Yoga Sutra as his witness: 'these siddhis are perfections to the outgoing mind, obstacles to samadhi.' (Two traditions, one warning — you will meet that sutra again in the Yoga Sutra Hall's vibhuti chapter.)
vidyāsamutthāne svābhāvike khecarī śivāvasthā ॥
When pure knowing rises of itself, khechari appears — moving in the sky of awareness, which is Shiv's own state.
In simple words: Kshemaraja says a rare, explicit 'no' here: this is not the khechari won by locking the lotus posture and driving the mind up like a rod — he quotes such a manual only to set it aside. Real khechari is to move in kha, the sky of awareness: a surging state of self-bliss that is not performed at all, but appears of itself when pure knowing rises.
gururupāyaḥ ॥
The guru is the means — the one who voices the real meaning and shows the pervasion; in truth, the Lord's own grace-power itself.
In simple words: In two words the whole scripture turns toward a person. Kshemaraja's etymology: guru = 'the one who voices' the real meaning. The Malinivijaya: 'that guru, revealer of the mantra's potency, is said to be my equal.' Then the deeper floor: 'or rather, the guru is the Lord's own grace-bestowing power' — the shakti that gives an opening; the wheel of powers itself is the 'guru's mouth'. This Hall's entire conduct walks inside this one sutra's boundary: we walk you to the door; a living guru opens it.
mātṛkācakrasaṁbodhaḥ ॥
(From the pleased guru the disciple receives) full awakening to the wheel of Matrika — the alphabet-goddess's whole circle recognized as the unfolding of the one 'I'.
In simple words: The same Matrika who bound unrecognized in I.4 frees here when recognized: from 'a' to the visarga, from 'ka' to 'sa', the whole order of creation blossoming as one I-awareness. Kshemaraja gives the map and then halts himself: 'enough unveiling of the secret' — the fullness lives in the Paratrishika-vivarana, the Tantraloka, and the living lineage. This Room halts exactly there too.
II.6 is the one sutra in the whole text that cannot be practised alone, because it IS the statement that the way, at this depth, is a living person. The mantra-potency of II.3, the matrika-awakening of II.7 — the tradition transmits these in diksha, face to face.
Mantra-virya, the khechari state, the matrika-wheel — everything this Room describes is received in transmission (diksha) from a living guru of the Trika lineage. The text itself says so: the guru is the upaya. Seek the living door; test it with the discernment the tradition demands; this Hall will still be here to walk beside you.
What CAN be done now: keep the practices this Hall does hand you (the upsurge-watch, the heart-rest, the inward japa) honest and regular. What Kshemaraja actually says of II.6 is encouragement enough: the guru is the Lord's own grace-power — it is she who gives the opening.
Recall the one person who most changed how you see — a teacher, a grandmother, anyone whose few words rearranged you. Notice that what reached you was never the information; it was the meeting. II.6 asks you to take that ordinary, verifiable experience and follow it to its limit: at the summit of this path too, what carries is a meeting.
