The close: the knower of Brahman becomes Brahman itself. As flowing rivers give up name and form and merge into the sea, so the knower merges into the supreme Puruṣa. This higher knowledge is given, by rule, only to the faithful and Brahman-devoted — 'brahmavid brahmaiva bhavati.'
sa vedaitatparamaṁ brahma dhāma yatra viśvaṁ nihitaṁ bhāti śubhram ।
upāsate puruṣaṁ ye hyakāmāste śukrametadativartanti dhīrāḥ ॥
He (the knower) knows that supreme Brahman, the abode in which the whole universe rests and which shines forth pure by its own light. The desireless ones who worship that Purusha—those wise ones transcend this seed (śukra), the source of the body (i.e., are freed from rebirth).
In simple words: The one who turns toward the Divine wanting nothing in return finds that supreme light and slips free of being born again and again.
kāmānyaḥ kāmayate manyamānaḥ sa kāmabhirjāyate tatra tatra ।
paryāptakāmasya kṛtātmanastvihaiva sarve pravilīyanti kāmāḥ ॥
The man who, dwelling on the objects of desire, longs for them is born again and again here and there through those desires. But for one whose desire is fulfilled, who is Self-realized, all desires dissolve away here itself.
In simple words: It is craving that keeps pulling us back into life after life; but for one already full within, every longing quietly dissolves here and now.
nāyamātmā pravacanena labhyo na medhayā na bahunā śrutena ।
yamevaiṣa vṛṇute tena labhyastasyaiṣa ātmā vivṛṇute tanūṁ svām ॥
This Self is not attained by exposition, nor by intellect, nor by much hearing. Whom this (seeker) chooses, by him alone is It attained; to him this Self reveals Its own true form.
In simple words: The Self is not won by clever study or a sharp intellect; it reveals itself to the one who wholeheartedly longs for it alone.
nāyamātmā balahīnena labhyo na ca pramādāttapaso vāpyaliṅgāt ।
etairupāyairyatate yastu vidvāṁstasyaiṣa ātmā viśate brahmadhāma ॥
This Self cannot be attained by one who lacks strength, nor through heedlessness, nor through austerity devoid of the mark (of renunciation). But the wise one who strives by these means—his Self enters the abode of Brahman.
In simple words: This path is not for the weak or the careless; it opens to one who brings inner strength, steady attention, and genuine letting-go to the effort.
saṁprāpyainamṛṣayo jñānatṛptāḥ kṛtātmāno vītarāgāḥ praśāntāḥ ।

Having attained this Self, the seers become content in knowledge, fulfilled, free from passion, and tranquil. Those wise ones, having reached the all-pervading (Brahman) on every side, self-composed, enter into the All itself.
In simple words: Those who reach the Self grow content, calm, and free of craving, and merge into the boundless whole that is present everywhere.
vedāntavijñānasuniścitārthāḥ saṁnyāsayogādyatayaḥ śuddhasattvāḥ ।
te brahmalokeṣu parāntakāle parāmṛtāḥ parimucyanti sarve ॥
Those who have well ascertained the goal through the knowledge of Vedanta, ascetics striving through the yoga of renunciation, pure in nature—all of them, at the final end, become supremely immortal in the Brahman-worlds and are wholly liberated.
In simple words: Those who have clearly grasped the goal and lived a pure life are set wholly free when their life reaches its end.
gatāḥ kalāḥ pañcadaśa pratiṣṭhā devāśca sarve pratidevatāsu ।
karmāṇi vijñānamayaśca ātmā pare'vyaye sarva ekībhavanti ॥
The fifteen parts return to their (respective) supports, and all the gods (of the senses) merge into their presiding deities; the works and the knowing self—all these become one in the supreme, imperishable (Being).
In simple words: In release, all the parts that made up the person return to their sources and become one in the changeless Imperishable.
yathā nadyaḥ syandamānāḥ samudre'staṁ gacchanti nāmarūpe vihāya ।
tathā vidvānnāmarūpādvimuktaḥ parātparaṁ puruṣamupaiti divyam ॥
As flowing rivers disappear into the ocean, casting off name and form, so the knower, freed from name and form, attains the divine Purusha, higher than the highest.
In simple words: Just as a river merges into the sea and loses its name and shape, the knower lets go of name and form and becomes one with the boundless Divine.
sa yo ha vai tatparamaṁ brahma veda brahmaiva bhavati nāsyābrahmavitkule bhavati ।
tarati śokaṁ tarati pāpmānaṁ guhāgranthibhyo vimukto'mṛto bhavati ॥
Whoever indeed knows that supreme Brahman becomes Brahman itself. In his lineage none is born who does not know Brahman. He crosses over sorrow, crosses over sin, and, freed from the knots of the heart, becomes immortal.
In simple words: To truly know Brahman is to become Brahman — sorrow and sin fall away, and one is set free and deathless.
kriyāvantaḥ śrotriyā brahmaniṣṭhāḥ svayaṁ juhvata ekarṣiṁ śraddhayantaḥ ।
teṣāmevaitāṁ brahmavidyāṁ vadeta śirovrataṁ vidhivadyaistu cīrṇam ॥
To those who perform the rites, are learned in scripture, devoted to Brahman, who with faith themselves offer oblations in the Ekarshi fire, and who have duly observed the head-vow (of carrying fire on the head)—to them alone should one declare this knowledge of Brahman.
In simple words: This teaching is passed only to the sincere and prepared — those who have shown their earnestness and devotion.
tadetatsatyamṛṣiraṅgirāḥ purovāca naitadacīrṇavrato'dhīte ।
namaḥ paramaṛṣibhyo namaḥ paramaṛṣibhyaḥ ॥
This truth the sage Angiras declared of old. One who has not performed the vow does not study it. Salutation to the supreme seers! Salutation to the supreme seers!
In simple words: This truth has come down from the ancient seers and is kept for the worthy; the text closes by bowing in gratitude to those great seers.
