The Aitareya opens with creation: in the beginning the Self (Ātman) alone was — nothing else. It willed, 'Let me bring forth worlds,' and made the worlds of water, light-rays, the mortal world (earth), and the waters; then from the waters it drew forth a cosmic Person (Virāṭ) and shaped him. Creation is born not of chaos but of the will of consciousness.

sa īkṣata lokānnu sṛjā iti ॥
In the beginning this [universe] was the Self (Ātman) alone; nothing else whatsoever stirred. He willed: 'Let me create the worlds.'
In simple words: Before anything at all existed there was just one aware presence, and the universe begins not by accident but because that awareness itself chose to bring it forth.

ambho marīcīrmaramāpo'do'mbhaḥ pareṇa divaṁ dyauḥ pratiṣṭhāntarikṣaṁ marīcayaḥ pṛthivī maro yā adhastāttā āpaḥ ॥
He created these worlds: ambhas, marīci, mara and āpas. That which is beyond heaven, with heaven for its support, is ambhas; the mid-region is marīci; the earth is mara; and what is below is āpas.
In simple words: First the whole stage is set — the realms above, the sky between, the earth, and the waters below — as if the house were readied before anyone was invited to live in it.
sa īkṣateme nu lokā lokapālānnu sṛjā iti so'dbhya eva puruṣaṁ samuddhṛtyāmūrchayat ॥
He willed: 'Here now are the worlds; let me create guardians for the worlds.' Then, drawing a Person (Puruṣa) up from the very waters, he shaped him with limbs.
In simple words: A world needs someone to tend it, so out of the formless waters the Self draws up a single human shape — the living mould from which all our powers of sense will be born.
tamabhyatapattasyābhitaptasya mukhaṁ nirabhidyata yathāṇḍaṁ mukhādvāgvāco'gnirnāsike nirabhidyetāṁ nāsikābhyāṁ prāṇaḥ prāṇādvāyurakṣiṇī nirabhidyetāmakṣibhyāṁ cakṣuścakṣuṣa ādityaḥ karṇau nirabhidyetāṁ karṇābhyāṁ śrotraṁ śrotrāddiśastvaṅnirabhidyata tvaco lomāni lomabhya oṣadhivanaspatayo hṛdayaṁ nirabhidyata hṛdayānmano manasaścandramā nābhirnirabhidyata nābhyā apāno'pānānmṛtyuḥ śiśnaṁ nirabhidyata śiśnādreto retasa āpaḥ ॥
He brooded over him with tapas; as he was brooded upon his mouth burst open, like an egg. From the mouth came speech, from speech fire. The nostrils burst open; from the nostrils breath, from breath the wind. The eyes burst open; from the eyes sight, from sight the sun. The ears burst open; from the ears hearing, from hearing the quarters. The skin burst forth; from the skin the body-hairs, from the hairs plants and trees. The heart burst forth; from the heart mind, from mind the moon. The navel burst forth; from the navel the out-breath (apāna), from apāna death. The generative organ burst forth; from it semen, from semen the waters.
In simple words: Every doorway of the body is twinned with a power of the cosmos — the light that sees through your eyes is kin to the sun, the breath in your nostrils to the wind — so you are woven from the very same threads as the whole universe.
